Abbot Kinney First Friday- TONIGHT! August 1

Let's get this month started with a party! Turn it up on Abbot Kinney Bl in Venice, Ca tonight! Eat, Shop Play!!! Food Truck FAQ Below!

Whatever you decide to call it - this is  it and this is the OFFICIAL BLOG OF FIRST FRIDAYS!First Fridays – 1st Fridays – Abbot Kinney First Fridays – Abbot Kinney 1st Fridays!

The Abbot Kinney First Fridays Blog was started in 2008 (for real!) when a handful of people (about 30 - for real!!!) showed up to the event, which was namely local shops staying open late with special sales. The AKFF Blog was started to spread awareness and crushed it - with thousands coming in a year and are still going strong! While it changed to  a food truck event (food truck faq below), there are still special events and  we'll tell you about it.

At one of the many restaurants and enjoy happy hours too-  The AKFF recommends Hal's Bar & Grill for happy hour and delish eats. For casual healthy and tasty, try Lemonade or Kreation Organic. Of course there are about 50+ food trucks on the boulevard with lotsa options for eating too. See our Twitter feed for food trucks on  the hottest boulevard in America: @AbbotKinney1st

There are many cute boutiques on the boulevard that are open; typically between 6-8. Arrive early to fins parking and check out some new styles. Amazon will have a truck out on Abbot Kinney showcasing their products.

You're here to have fun, right? Head on over to Electric Lodge at 1416 Electric Av. (parallel to Abbot Kinney- just turn at California at the light and turn right on Electric  and walk about 300 feet on left) for HIgh Voltage, FREE special multimedia performance at 9pm followed by DJ Romy Ancona at 10pm for Spark After Dark at the solar powered building. Just look for the angel statue in front close to the entrance.
You'll be jumping for joy too after you get fit at Turning Point Pilates in Venice, close to Abbot Kinney Boulevard, across from Lemonade in the business complex.

Turning Point Pilates, a Classical Pilates Studio in business for 7 years offers private and group classes, led by Founder Robin Solo. She treats you as an individual and makes sure to find out what existing health conditions you may have, say a knee injury for instance, and  tailors your fitness workout accordingly.

How can we tell you for sure? The Editor of the AKFF Blog  took a private lesson with Robin, who took great care in accommodating her injuries for a great workout. Check it out before you go to 1st Fridays and talk to Robin or one of the experienced instructors there!

612A Venice BL 90291
CALL 310-217-7630

Want some eats? See the AKFF Twitter feed, @AbbotKinney1st  to see what trucks are there.

Typically there are 50 trucks  on the boulevard, so there's a lot to choose from: gluten free, vegan, desserts and everything else inbetween. Hey, while you're at it, please throw your trash in the container - if the food truck you purchased from does not have one, ask them to  put a trash bag out or to take your trash.

First things first- get your permits from the City of Los Angeles - Venice is part of LA and goes by those rules. The AKFF Blog covers the event, we don't do permits. Bring  a trash container and haul your trash when you leave. Do you want a shoutout on our Page 1 Blog? If so, email the AKFF Editor for our new Food Truck Shout Out program today!
Hurry before the next 1st Fridays on September 5, 2014!

Abbot Kinney 1st Fridays Aug 1, from Venice to Vegas, Venice BBQ Aug 2

The First Fridays of the month is coming atcha quickly – this Friday, August 1, 2014, followed by the Venice Community Barbecue on Saturday, August 2.

The AKFF Blog is in Las Vegas with a special report on sizzling summer fun - nightclubs, pools and shopping!

We'll be back in time for First Fridays on Abbot Kinney!

First Friday – Abbot Kinney Blvd – Friday, Aug 1, Starts around 6pm
Get some eats, see our Tweets for which food trucks will be there!
Then head on over to Electric Lodge, just around the corner from Abbot Kinney – walk to Milwood and turn left (easiest way to get there) or California (at the light) turn right and walk a short distance. You're in for a real treat! Hang out, get a drink at the bar, then catch a free performance at 9pm, followed by dj sets. More details coming later. Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Av. Valet parking available.

Venice to Vegas – Special Report on where to eat, shop and play (clubs & pools)
It's sizzling hot and what better way to cool off than one of the many pools or shop it off – and there is great shopping in Las Vegas!
Shop at All Saints in the contemporary Cosmopolitan, part of the City Center! Eat at Wicked Spoon in the Cosmopolitan, if you're looking for a buffet- it has the reputation as one of the best!

Play at Drai's, the hottest new club on the Strip! Saturday night is the night to go to this beautiful, classy club with  a pool that has an amazing view of the Strip! The beats are great, the vibe is fun and you can dance your ass off! It's a good classy crowd, (much classier than other clubs in LV) short line, no searches (they do that at Tao- so annoying), while it's crowded, you're not packed in like a sardine, so you can dance the night away! Drinks are $$$ (like most places on the Strip). The bars at Vegas clubs need to take note of places like Hal's Bar & Grill on Abbot Kinney to learn how to make a superb drink  – and great customer service! Nuff said...

Speaking of cocktails, it was nice to  have a cosmopolitan during happy hour at Kona's, away from the Strip, 20 minutes away in Summerlin, for a chill experience with some good eats like avocado egg rolls and margherita pizza and sushi. Plus shopping there in the Boca Center -  Las Vegas Facebook photos coming soon! Pools, pools, so many pools - we loved the Bellagio for a classy experience that makes you feel like royalty (5 pools and jacuzzis), Aria is nice with 2 pools including a 21+ pool and upbeat  weekend scene at Encore. Come back - more coming soon!

Venice Community Barbeque – Saturday, Aug 2, 12-4pm
This annual event is a fun one for all ages. The local Fire Station 63  makes the BEST BBQ ever! Just bring a side dish or dessert to share for at least 10 people. Local music, games for the kids and more! Oakwood Recreation Center.

5 Healthy Living Tips from Turning Point Pilates in Venice

Robin Solo from Turning Point Pilates in Venice shares 5 Healthy Lifestyle Tips  with Abbot Kinney First Fridays that will help you look good and feel good at any time of the year! (Of course, it is summer and  we all want to look really good!)

1- Eat breakfast or something in the AM!. This  gives you energy to start your day, improves concentration and productivity.

2- Doing something active is doing something positive for yourself. Make the time!, Try walking, try Pilates, a Krav Maga class, yoga. Movement is key to health!

3- A flatter tummy can be yours. Do Pilates 3x a week for a month! The practice requires constant abdominal engagement with attention to drawing them in and up,  Your abs hold your organs in and support your back too!

4- Start exercising at any age. Get up your gumption and start! Exercise is proven to increase mental function, memory, endurance, balance, strength and will elevate your mood. There are so many choices, experiment, you may try something you love!

5- HYDRATE! Every cell, tissue and organ in your body needs water to function correctly. Fluids remove waste, control body temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and aid metabolism Poor hydration weakens the body's immune system leading to illness  and premature aging!
