Venice Art Crawl Thursday, January 20, 6-10pm

This is the first Venice Art Crawl of the year!
This is the opportunity to see art by local artists - and some reallly great, cutting edge art as well in Venice! It takes place along the Venice Boardwalk (Ocean Front Walk is the real name) between Venice Blvd. and Rose Ave. and streets in the vicinity at restaurants, galleries, stores, offices and  some super cool spaces you normally would not be able to see in Venice.

First, the more well known venues you can Google if you don't know where they are: Hotel Erwin, Danny's, James Beach, Canal Club and Whole Foods. Make sure to see newcomer, Cadillac Hotel.

Next for some lesser known venues, some of them private residences:
Venice Re-Naissance - 57 Market Street 6-9pm
This is a great space and often times has art up on the roof, n the past featuring Venice Artist Bill Attaway's art. The ground floor has art and usually hosts the afterparty. You may be treated to some cool projections on the street just steps away.
Brian Mylius Art Show at El Bordello Alexandria - 20 Westminster Ave 4-10pm
This is also known as the gargoyle house. Eclectic art  displayed outside in a unique setting. After all, it is Venice!

Pop-Up Gallery - Featuring the work of Judy Ross - Small World Books 6-9pm
1407 Ocean Front Walk
. Located next to Sidewalk Cafe which also is part of the art crawl. This independent book store is a real gem in Venice!

KaleidArt at Schulzies - Featuring the art of Rich Yaker - 1827 Ocean Front Walk 6-10pmRich Yaker is a photographer and digital artist from Venice.
The Venice Art Crawl was started in August 2010 and is a free event to particpate in whether you are an artist or coming to view the art. The event has quickly grown in scope and popularity. This is a must see and experience if you can make it to Venice!

It's a New Year and there's lots of great events happening in Venice! Scroll down for all events.
The First 1st Friday of 2011: January 7, 6-10 pm
Just Updated Parking Options for 1st Friday!

Just in as of Friday, 01/07 at noon- parking will be allowed on Abbot Kinney. (the city attorney's office denied the no parking permits at the 11th hour). See editorial below on how parking, etc is affected by the food trucks that have taken over First Fridays. See event info below that.
---
So this First 1st Friday will be fun as always, however, a bit different... parking is restricted on Abbot Kinney Blvd. - No Parking from 4-11pm- in effect Jan., Feb, & March. Don't Panic, see our parking tips below. Originally, 1st Fridays was to promote the  eclectic array of businesses on the infamous boulevard in Venice, when it started in 2007. Take it from this blogger, I'm a local and was instrumental in getting this off the ground and on the map.

I worked with the Venice Chamber and Neighborhood Council in promoting the event, plus created graphics for various community to drives to help the underprivileged in Venice. After this blog was started in 08' to help promote it, it really took off. Before you could blink in 09', there were 40-50 food trucks lined up on the boulevard who have treated our neighborhood as a cash cow, all the while leaving behind piles of garbage, crowds so big that people were forced to walk in the streets, monopolizing parking, &  blocking storefronts and taking away business from the merchants.

If you are a FOOD TRUCK OWNER, I HOPE YOU READ THIS AND CHOOSE TO BE A RESPONSIBLE VISITOR IN VENICE. While it's great to have quick, cheap eats, the inconsiderate actions on your part is has led to a completely out of control situation. Don't blame the merchants here- the LA City Council has been completely inept with this situation and most food truck owners uncooperative. Nuff said here...

Lemonade - another new kid on the block with healthy salads, excellent seared ahi and too many flavors of lemonade - even watermelon! corner of Venice Blvd., east side of street
