Wednesday
Japanese American Commemoration celebrating the site of the future memorial marker at the corner of Lincoln & Venice Blvds. (northwest corner.) This event features speakers, such as Arnold Maeda (who was sent to Manzanar Concentration Camp) and an exhibit of the design of the future marker to come that commemorates the forced detention of Japanese Americans in Venice during World War 2. Event starts at 10 am.

An art opening in Venice on Abbot Kinney at new popup gallery, M. Herrington (in the Altered Spaces Gallery space - they are now in the back space, fyi.) Lotsa Art Events in Venice! Art Crawl, SPARC, Sushi Thursdays Venice & Santa Monica!

Thursday:
A Window Between Worlds Event at SPARC
This evening reception will feature a video projection of Barbara T. Smith's Opening Ceremony Performance from March 31st.  If you're interested in connecting with the art community in Venice, this event will allow you to experience the I Can: Requiem for I Can't exhibit. Venice Art Crawl
This monthly art event in Venice has cutting edge  local art, music and fun in store for you - and best of all it's free! Most of the locations are near the beach on the Boardwalk, aka Ocean Front Walk between Venice Blvd and Rose Ave. Just check out our handy search box in the right column and search for "art crawl" or "Venice art crawl" to see  what happens and find out about choice places. Do keep in mind that these are opoup gallery locations, so they do change from month to month.

Emergence of Silicon Beach in Venice, Thursday April 12

Venice has quickly become a hub for digital media and  the high tech industry with its accumulation of design, post-production and industry related small businesses, plus the recent addition of Google to the neighborhood and in the spring Amplify.LA, startup incubator opening in the Spring.

First Week of April Venice Events & Santa Monica Events! First Friday, Art Openings, Performance & more!

Monday:
Ultra-experimental performance laboratory at Electric Lodge, starting at 7:30 for $10. max10 is a place where new artists can show early work, and more established artists can work outside their genre. The event is called max10 because each piece can be no longer than 10 minutes, and there will be no more than ten performers a night. First Fridays on Abbot Kinney from approximately 6-10/11pm, and it's free! The Abbot Kinney 1st Fridays blog encourages you to check out all the eclectic shops, galleries and restaurants, listed in GQ Magazine's, GQ 100 in the April issue as "The most happening shopping destination in America."

Jazz at Joe's Restaurant from 7-11 pm on the patio with jazz, flamenco and world music guitarist Vahagni,   joined by drummer Zach Harmon and cellist Artyom Manukyan.
